This beautiful pair of antique 19th century French Louis XVI style 2 light candelabra lamps, in the manner of Henry Dasson, is made of the highest quality. Henry Dasson (c. 1825–1896) was a nineteenth century Parisian maker of gilt-bronze mounted furniture. Each candelabra is mounted on a luxurious rouge marble base, its rich red tones providing a striking contrast to the gleaming ormolu (gilded bronze) and the dark, lustrous patinated bronze of the cherubs. The central figures of the cherubs are finely modeled, their youthful forms imbued with a sense of grace and movement, each holding aloft the elegant branches that support five candle arms. The candelabras’ intricate detailing, from the soft folds of the cherubs’ drapery to the delicate acanthus leaf motifs adorning the ormolu, showcases renowned attention to craftsmanship.
The gilded bronze ormolu elements radiate opulence, with decorative flourishes that enhance the sculptural quality of the candelabras, while the patinated bronze cherubs, with their deep, rich tone, provide a striking contrast to the gilded details and the vibrant marble base. Together, the materials create a harmonious balance of color and texture, elevating the piece beyond mere functionality into a work of art.
