This Antique Oil Painting On Canvas Titled “Checkmated” by Alex De Andreis (1880-1939) is truly an exceptional piece of art! If you look at the photos provided you will see the attention to detail in the people in this painting as well as the architectural elements! This painting depicts two gentleman playing a game of chess while their colleague watches them play! Alex De Andreis started his career as a soldier for the Spanish and Swedish crown! He established himself as a painter through his works of military life which were in the tradition of François Roybet as well as his costume painting which displayed romanticizing propensities. The painting is signed in the lower right corner and is in good antique condition with very minor light surface scratches and blemishes to the frame but otherwise really good condition.
