A magnificent pair of 19th century French Louis XV style bronze mounted candelabras, masterfully executed by the esteemed foundry Susse Frères, and mounted on rare and highly decorative Breche Violette marble bases. These opulent candelabras exemplify the exuberance, asymmetry, and fluid ornamentation that define the Rococo revival period, interpreted through the refined lens of 19th century French decorative arts.
Each candelabra features six scrolled candle arms with finely cast gilt hand chiseled bronze nozzles and bobeches, emanating from an ornate central stem adorned with acanthus leaves, rocaille flourishes, and naturalistic vines. The gilt bronze (ormolu) is of exceptional quality, showcasing the deep chisel work and intricate detail that distinguishes Susse Frères bronzes.
The base of each candelabra is crafted from richly veined Breche Violette marble, a luxurious and rare stone admired for its striking blend of lavender, rose, cream, and grey hues. The marble is shaped in an elegant form, surmounted by elaborate bronze mounts with scrolling feet.
Marked with the Susse Frères signature, a hallmark of the highest caliber in 19th century French bronze casting, these candelabras not only function as lighting objects but also as exceptional decorative sculptures. They reflect both the ornate charm of the Louis XV Rococo style and the superior technical and artistic quality of the Belle Époque era. the pair is also signed by Robert F. Which was most likely the designer for the pair.
Whether placed atop a grand mantel, console, or as part of a refined table scape, these candelabras will elevate any interior with their regal presence and storied provenance. The pair is in good antique condition with the exception of some light surface scratches, Minor finish loss and normal age related wear. As to be expected with items of age and use.
